Kent announce overseas signing

Kent County Cricket Club today announced the signing of West Indies batsman Brendan Nash as their overseas signing for the entire 2012 season.

Nash, who has played 21 Tests and 9 One Day Internationals for the West Indies, will join the Club later this month in time for the opening fixture against Yorkshire at Headingley.

Commenting on the new signing Jimmy Adams, Head Coach said “I am pleased that Kent have been able to secure the services of Brendan Nash.  Brendan’s ability, coupled with his experience at every level of the game, will undoubtedly be of tremendous value to the club especially given his availability for the entire season.

“I look forward to welcoming Brendan to Kent in the next couple of weeks in preparation for the season opener in early April.”

The 34 year old left handed batsman last played Test Cricket for the West Indies against India in June last year, with Nash scoring just 1 and 9 in his last two Test innings.

In his 21 Tests, Nash has scored 1103 runs at an average of 33.42 whilst picking up two wickets with his left arm medium pacers.

The batsman has been in good form of late in the West Indies domestic first class cricket, recently hitting 205 not out as his Jamaica side beat Guyana by eight wickets in Antigua.

Born in Attadale in Western Australia, Nash hasn’t given up hope of one day representing the West Indies once again after being Vice-Captain at one stage.

Nash becomes Kent’s fifth signing on the winter so far, with Charlie Shreck, Ben Harmison and Mike Powell all agreeing permanent deals, whilst opening batsman Scott Newman has signed on loan for the first couple of months of the season.
